As per our discussion, I am giving you your holiday assignment early so that you can finish even before the week off if you so decide. Please complete the reading comprehension quizzes 3-6. The reading comp packet is attached in case you misplaced yours.
The other thing I would like you to do is memorize the three categories I am listing below.
Coordinating Conjunctions: these words connect independent clauses.
FANBOYS is the acronym to remember these 7 words: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
Subordinating Conjunctions (Linking conjunctions): these words connect dependent clauses with the main or independent clause.
after, although, as, as if, as long as, because, before, but that, even, even if, even though, except that, ever since, if, if only, in case, just as, since, unless, until, when, whenever, where, wherever, while
Prepositions: express relationships between other words, especially nouns (people, places, things or ideas), including relationships of time and space.
across, after, at, as, before, between, by, for, from, in, like, of, on, over, through, to, under, until, up, with
**Study the words and make sure you are able to identify which category they fall into. You will be receiving a sheet with some other grammatical terms you should know too. This will help you prepare for the Grammar for SATs/ACTs Unit that we will be starting after the break. Yay!
